Dear Readers,

Nancy Pelosi has a very distorted understanding of Catholic/Christian teaching on abortion. However, is she as accountable for this as the Catholic religious leaders who support her and others, such as her bishops, who absolutely refuse to hold her accountable for the scandal caused by her militant promotion of abortion rights? Really, if abortion is not an important matter for the Church, as it appears to Nancy, then Catholics should be able to kill their unborn children and receive communion, shouldn’t they? Not really, but as long as the scandal is allowed to continue perhaps we can’t judge Nancy and other prominent pro-abort Catholic politicians too harshly.

Negligence, cowardice or even corruption by many (with increasing wonderful exceptions) of the nation’s Catholic clergy, at all levels, has greatly contributed to this problem. If people are not shepherded well they end up doing strange and dangerous things.

Joe Biden is another one. His bishop sounds great – except why oh why is he allowing Biden to continue to receive communion. Obviously Biden still doesn’t get the message and now he could become the vice-president of the United States. The public scandal caused by Biden and its influence on all Americans will now be worse then ever when it should have and could have been dealt with long ago.

The 40 Days for Life will be a great light in the darkness. Perhaps these special, sacrificial prayer efforts are the only way that the tide of the culture of death will be reversed.

It was a sad day for Canadian pro-lifers to see Rob Nicholson propose a bill that could in effect eliminate Ken Epp’s Unborn Victims of Crime Act. This foul deed via a formerly courageous pro-life MP was a totally unexpected shocker that left pro-life activists reeling. This Conservative government has ripped the soul from many good men and women in that government.

Political expediency and obtaining power and holding on to it at all costs has been a hallmark of the calculating Harper Conservatives. They are in many ways anything but conservative and utterly unable to confidently promote and defend fundamental moral principles in government. Yes, they are certainly better than the Liberals and the NDP but not for much longer as this sad pattern continues. The greatest marvel is the cowardice from some of the good Conservative MPs who very well know what is right and what is wrong.

Just as a personal comment, I would love to see the principled Liberals and Conservatives leave their respective parties and form a new one that would allow them to be honest to their most sacred personal convictions. It won’t happen but wouldn’t it be wonderful if Canadians finally had such a clear voting choice among the parties capable of electing MPs?
