Commentary on May 28 Canadian News

There has been a astonishing and unexpected upsurge in the debate on abortion in Canada over the past few months. And now we are seeing an unprecedented public call for an honest discussion of the realities of abortion by two of Canada’s most prominent Catholic bishops – Quebec Cardinal Marc Oullet and Ottawa Archbishop Terrance Prendergast.

The strongest anti-life influence on the nation by far has for decades come from Quebec, with abortionist Henry Morgentaler and former Canadian Catholic Prime Ministers Pierre Trudeau, Brian Mulroney, Jean Chretien and Paul Martin, all from Quebec, forcing it through or ensuring that the wide open baby killing status quo is maintained. The Quebec National Assembly has reaffirmed the Quebec political establishment’s pro-abortion extremism, even though the province is experiencing a demographic suicide.

Cardinal Oullet is boldly trying to reverse Quebec’s demographic and spiritual death spiral, together with his also increasingly courageous Ontario ally, Ottawa Archbishop Prendergast. These two men are owed much gratitude and encouragement. The growing pro-life sentiment in Quebec will undoubtedly benefit from their courage and the newly revitalized Campaign Life Coalition Quebec.

The National March for Life needs to expand to 40,000 participants to proportionally match its annual US counterpart march in Washington. The way things are going now this may very well happen in the next few years and Campaign Life Coalition Canada is working hard to try to make that happen.

The months and years ahead could be very promising. And who, knows, maybe it will be Quebec that will lead Canada back to a culture of life.
