Conservative leaders slam media blackout over Gosnell, Planned Parenthood support for infanticide
WASHINGTON, D.C., April 5, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Twenty-one leaders in the pro-life and conservative movements have signed a statement denouncing national broadcast networks ABC, CBS, and NBC for failing to give any attention to the murder trial of Philadelphia “House of Horrors” abortionist Kermit Gosnell.
The statement, written by L. Brent Bozell of the Media Research Center and signed by 20 other movement leaders, calls the media blackout on the two stories a “national disgrace.”
The statement complains that in the three weeks since the Gosnell trial began, ABC, CBS, and NBC have not mentioned the case even once on either their morning or evening news shows, despite the dramatic and horrifying testimonies given by witnesses. ABC and NBC have refused to cover the case from the beginning, while CBS covered only his initial arrest in 2011.
Gosnell stands accused of murdering at least seven babies born alive at his filthy West Philadelphia abortion clinic by cutting their spines at the neck with scissors. He is also facing a separate homicide charge for the death of a 41-year-old woman he overdosed with Demerol.
The letter also criticizes the networks for failing to report on a video that surfaced last week of a Planned Parenthood official in Florida telling state legislators that the decision about whether to give life-saving care to a baby born alive after a botched abortion should be “left up to the woman.”

In the video clip, a visibly unnerved Rep. Jim Boyd asked Planned Parenthood lobbyist Alisa LaPolt Snow: “So, it is just really hard for me to even ask you this question, because I’m almost in disbelief. If a baby is born on a table as a result of a botched abortion, what would Planned Parenthood want to have happen to that child that is struggling for life?”
Snow replied, “We believe that any decision that's made should be left up to the woman, her family, and the physician.”
The letter’s signers pointed out that while ABC, CBS, and NBC have been entirely silent on these two shocking news stories, the networks have given ample coverage during their newscasts to the passage of new abortion laws in North Dakota and Arkansas, repeatedly referring to them as “restrictive.”
“The Kermit Gosnell case, in which his abortion clinic has been described as a ‘House of Horrors,’ could have been plucked from the fever dream of Hollywood’s most depraved slasher film writer, and…[t]he Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates’ on-the-record position in support of murdering living children is staggering in its radicalism…yet ABC, CBS, and NBC have completely censored it out of the news,” Bozell wrote. “But the new pro-life laws in North Dakota and Arkansas? They draw a critical eye from the broadcast networks.”
The letter continued, “The horrific excesses of the abortion industry – exemplified by Gosnell and Planned Parenthood – are major, national news stories any way you look at them. But the pro-abortion liberal media are determined to hide them from the public. The media have a solemn duty to the American people to report the news, not just news that helps the positions they support. It’s unprofessional, it’s disgusting, and it’s inhuman.”
“If the pro-life movement were involved in this type of insanity, there would be wall-to-wall coverage from every major news outlet," Bozell added. "This cover-up is a national disgrace.”
