OTTAWA (LifeSiteNews) – Conservative Party of Canada MP and leadership candidate Dr. Leslyn Lewis blasted the Canadian government’s “obsession with carbon footprints,” saying citizens need to confront the “lies” regarding “Net Zero” extremism to protect the nation’s farmers.

“It’s time to stand up, stand with our farmers, and say ‘NO.’ Our nation needs a courageous leader with vision and not just mere slogans. For over two years, I have been sounding the alarm about Net Zero within our party. Now we are seeing the impact of inactivity around the country,” Lewis wrote in a platform update posted to her website Saturday, titled “The truth about Net-Zero.”

Lewis warned that the Canadian federal government under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau cannot be allowed to “control how we farm and how we eat.”

She noted that as Prime Minister, she would “make sure farmers have a seat at the table as we create a real plan to protect our environment.”

“Will you help me carry this burden of courageously confronting the lies that are destroying our country,” Lewis added.

Lewis’ recent update comes in light of Trudeau government policy looking to enact “emissions” policies related to fertilizer in Canada, the same policies that have caused a farmer revolt in the Netherlands.

According to Canada’s Strengthened Climate Plan “nitrous oxide emissions, particularly those associated with synthetic nitrogen fertilizer use have also grown significantly.”

“That is why the Government of Canada has set the national fertilizer emissions reduction target, which is part of the commitment to reduce total GHG emissions in Canada by 40-45% by 2030,” the government says.

Similar policies enacted in the Netherlands have led to massive protests against the green agenda in Europe, as farmers say the policies will destroy their ability to make a living.

Lewis warned that Canada could end up like the Netherlands if so-called “Net Zero” extremism grabs hold.

“They always have a new way, a new lie, a new pressure point. Take ‘Net Zero’ for example. Net Zero sounds like a good idea. Who wouldn’t love a world with no pollution? But have you ever asked your Member of Parliament what it actually means? Almost nobody has,” Lewis noted.

“Yet Net Zero policies have contributed to both the recent complete collapse of Sri Lanka and the farmer protests in Holland. Canada is hurtling towards similar policies, and if we continue down this path, the Freedom Convoy will look like a footnote in history compared to the kind of unrest we are headed towards.”

Lewis noted that she earned her master’s degree in environmental studies before “the term ‘climate change’ was even used as a political wedge.”

“I am passionate about protecting our planet and especially our beloved nation. But I need to speak up about how unfair Net Zero calculations are, and the impact they are going to have on our economy, and indeed all aspects of life,” Lewis wrote.

In 2015, Canada accepted 2015 the United Nations’ “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.”

Indeed, Canada’s “Strengthened Climate Plan,” states the county is a “willing and active partner on the international stage.”

The Great Reset of Klaus Schwab and his World Economic Forum (WEF) has as part of its agenda the reduction of people’s “carbon” footprints.

Trudeau is listed on the WEF’s website.

Lewis: Canada is head toward the ‘same path’ as Holland

In her update, Lewis noted that the “obsession with carbon footprints” is the reason for the extreme policies in the Netherlands, but that it is also “one of the driving forces towards the shift to digital currency.”

Lewis wrote that the reason for this is that “Net Zero’s” goal is “to track every activity, every purchase for its “carbon footprint.”

“Currency and monetary value will be measured by carbon footprint in the future, and it will be digitized,” Lewis noted.

“This is what happened in Holland and Sri Lanka to calculate that farming was bad for the environment. Take cattle farming, for example: everything that a cow eats during its lifetime is part of the Net Zero calculation of the carbon footprint of a cow,” wrote Lewis.

“That includes all the food that was grown, its transportation, the nitrogen in the soil that produces the crops, the gas used in the production of the food, etc. When you sit down to eat a burger, they believe that just as you should be warned about the number of calories, you should also be punished for the carbon footprint it took to give you that burger – from growing the grain, to feeding the cow, to processing the meat, and to getting it to your dinner table. Eventually, it will be deemed too damaging for the planet to partake in meat and beef consumption.”

Lewis also blasted how “Net Zero” does not “look at the damage that lithium and cobalt mines cause to the environment.”

“Net Zero doesn’t care about the poor African children, as young as 5 years old, slaving in those dirty cobalt mines. Net Zero seems to only care about the nitrogen content of farming. This is why people are protesting – they know in their gut that something is unfair,” she added.

In a piece from 2020, the WEF wrote that “strong leadership will be needed to tackle climate change,” which was born out of “local governments, cities and businesses” having “taken responding to COVID-19 into their own hands.”

During the fall 2021 federal elections, Trudeau said his government will apply what it “learnt” from the COVID-19 crisis to the “climate crisis.”

Indeed, Trudeau’s extreme “climate plan” would ban the sale of new gas-powered vehicles from 2035 onward and subsidize at a heavy taxpayer expense electric cars, which some studies have shown are worse polluters than those that run on gasoline.

Trudeau’s green plan would also introduce more carbon taxes and target Canada’s oil and gas sector, which thousands rely on for their livelihoods.

Lewis recently blasted the current cancel-culture crusade against red meat by pushing bugs as a source of food.

LifeSiteNews recently launched a Voter Voice called “STOP Trudeau’s Harmful Nitrogen Policy! — Stand with farmers by joining this crucial campaign,” which can be found here.

LifeSiteNews is asking readers to call on their Members of Parliament to “intervene and reject Trudeau’s nitrogen emissions cap, and other extreme environmental regulations, before they wreak any more havoc on Canadian farmers.”
