OTTAWA (LifeSiteNews) – Dr. Leslyn Lewis, a Conservative Party of Canada MP, criticized Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s “undemocratic” mandate barring those who reject COVID vaccines from traveling.

I keep hearing from my constituents how exhausted and frustrated they are with these mandates and that they just want their lives to get back to normal,” said Lewis during a debate in Canada’s House of Commons last Friday.

“When will this government follow the example of Ontario and finally restore the freedom of Canadians by removing these unscientific and undemocratic vaccine federal mandates?”

In response to Lewis’s question, Minister of Health Jean-Yves Duclos claimed that without the COVID jabs “400,000” additional Canadians would have died in 2021.

Lewis added on Twitter Friday that the Conservative Party (CPC) will “will not stop calling on this government to restore freedom to Canadians.”

Since ousting Erin O’Toole as its leader in early February, the CPC under its interim leader Candice Bergen has come out more firmly and vocally against all COVID mandates enacted at the federal level.

Lewis’s call for the Trudeau government to end COVID travel jab mandates comes at the same time her colleague CPC Jeremy Patzer sponsored an official House of Commons petition demanding that the federal government rehire all federal public servants who were fired because they did not take the COVID jabs.

Patzer’s petition has gained considerable steam since being launched on March 3; currently it is closing in on 15,000 signatures.

Lewis recently said that the Emergencies Act – triggered by Trudeau in February in response to the trucker Freedom Convoy – was used to “financially attack” those who disagree with the government.

The Trudeau government last August announced that all persons traveling by air, rail, or sea, both domestically and internationally, had to have the COVID jabs or they would be barred from travel.

The rule went into effect in December. A similar mandate for truckers, sending the unjabbed into quarantine after crossing the U.S. border into Canada, went into effect in January. This resulted in truckers fighting back in the form of the Freedom Convoy.

A CPC party insider yesterday confirmed with LifeSiteNews that Lewis will be running in the upcoming party leadership race, which will take place on September 10.

Campaign Life Coalition gives Lewis a “green light” rating as a “supportable” pro-life candidate for her strong voting record in favor of life.

Alberta and Saskatchewan became the first Canadian provinces to remove their mask mandates after earlier getting rid of COVID vaccine passports following public support of the truckers’ Freedom Convoy, which called for an end to all mandates.

Ontario has removed its vaccine passport, including a mandate that its government workers be jabbed, but a mask rule remains in place for now.

The COVID-19 injections approved for emergency use in Canada have been associated with severe side effects such as blood clots, rashes, miscarriages, and even heart attacks in young, healthy men.

They also have connections to cell lines derived from aborted babies. As a result of this, many Catholics and other Christians refuse to take them.
