ROME, March 22, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Marcello Spallone, under house arrest since his conviction for performing illegal late-term abortions, has been apprehended while trying to flee the Italy.

Spallone, 55, was arrested in 2000 and received a 20-year sentence in November 2002. He was convicted along with his uncle, co-owner of the “Villa Gina” clinic in Rome, Ilio Spallone. Marcello and Ilio Spallone were convicted of the criminal action of doing abortions beyond 90 days of gestation. The 12 abortions in question were committed between 1995 and 1997.  Marcello Spallone, with the aid of two accomplices who are also being charged, fled his home where he has been under house arrest since 2002. They were apprehended while Spallone, using false papers, was attempting to board an aircraft for France.
