TORONTO, August 21, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) — Well-known Canadian pro-life witness Mary Wagner is inviting pro-lifers to submit letters defending the unborn child as evidence for her September 12 sentencing hearing.
Justice Rick Libman of the Ontario Court of Justice convicted Wagner, 43, of mischief and breach of probation on August 15 following a trial that ended June 29.
Wagner was arrested December 12 outside the Bloor West Village Women’s Clinic after trying to persuade women in the abortion facility waiting room to choose life for their children.
The Crown asked Libman to sentence Wagner to 18 months in jail.
The trial judge deferred Wagner’s sentencing so she could prepare evidence on her behalf, including character references.
Wagner is inviting pro-lifers to submit letters giving a voice to the child in the womb.
“I intend to seek some reference letters, not just for my own character but in support of the unborn,” she told LifeSiteNews.
“Open it up to the larger community, to the greater community, to speak to the fact that it’s not just one person in court, one person, so to speak, breaking the law, but many people who support justice for the unborn.”
Wagner testified during her trial that she believes she is upholding the law by attempting to save these youngest children, whom Canadian law does not recognize nor protect, from the violence of abortion.
“The fundamental question here is, this is killing human beings,” Wagner told LifeSiteNews.
“So it’s a complete disorder, upheaval of the intention of our justice system, which is to protect the innocent, and rooted in a respect for other human persons.”
Wagner spent 180 days in jail awaiting trial because she refused to sign bail conditions requiring her to stay away from abortion facilities.
With her trial delayed by a Crown’s extraordinary application for a publication ban (to be heard September 18), Libman and Crown lawyer Craig Power agreed to release Wagner on June 9 on the sole condition she return for the remainder of her trial.
The letters should be brief and in English, Wagner said.
Those who want to submit their letters in advance of the September 12 hearing can email them to Justice Libman, with a copy to Crown counsel Craig Power.

Wagner asks that a copy of emails be sent to her, care of Campaign Life Coalition (address below).
Alternatively, people can mail their letters, addressed to Honourable Eric (Rick) L. Libman, to Wagner, and she will submit them as evidence the day of the hearing.

Wagner, who hails from British Columbia, has been in Toronto since 2007 and has spent five years in jail for her peaceful attempts to protect women and their children from the violence of abortion
Wagner’s September 12 sentencing hearing will be at Old City Hall Courthouse, 10 a.m., Room 112 (room number may change).
