WASHINGTON, D.C., August 4, 2015 (LifeSiteNews) — Yesterday, the Senate's failure to pass a bill to defund Planned Parenthood included a bright light for pro-life Americans: The cracks in the line of Democrats that stand behind Planned Parenthood and its federal funding are continuing to grow.

Last week, the first Democrat to publicly support defunding Planned Parenthood was Ohio state Rep. Bill Patmon. Patmon, who spoke at a Students for Life of America #WomenBetrayed rally, said that Black Lives Matter protestors “should be in front of Planned Parenthood.”

According to a video provided by Breitbart, Patmon said that what Planned Parenthood does “is my business, especially when 17 million of them are black women, 17 million – more than any other population – 17 million that look and act and talk …similar to myself, but even more than that, they’re Americans, and they’re human beings.”

Patmon, who is black, is intending to introduce legislation in Ohio to defund Planned Parenthood. He said that his poorly-educated mother “would have been just what [Planned Parenthood is] looking for – not much education, a desire to succeed, and being told, ‘You can do this later. Let’s get rid of this one,’” Patmon said. “Well she didn’t get rid of this one.”

Yesterday, two Democrats in the U.S. Senate appeared to agree with Patmon about Planned Parenthood's receipt of public funding. Sens. Joe Donnelly of Indiana and Joe Manchin of West Virginia were the only Democrats to join most Republicans in attempting to defund Planned Parenthood.

Camille Paglia, a “strong supporter of unconstrained reproductive rights,” has also criticized the media for its reticence in reporting on the release of videos showing possibly illegal activity at the highest levels of Planned Parenthood.

“I was horrified and disgusted by those videos and immediately felt there were serious breaches of medical ethics in the conduct of Planned Parenthood officials,” Paglia told

Democrats for Life has also supported defunding the abortion giant, and pro-life columnist Kirsten Powers hammered Planned Parenthood's practices due to what was shown in the first video.

Even leading Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton was briefly critical of Planned Parenthood, last week saying that the videos of Planned Parenthood officials discussing fetal harvesting are “disturbing.” Clinton also told The New Hampshire Union Leader that “if there’s going to be any kind of congressional inquiry, it should look at everything and not just one [organization].”

However, as of yesterday, Clinton was defending Planned Parenthood in an ad, in which she proclaimed that defunding Planned Parenthood is “a full-on assault on women's health.”
