OTTAWA, Apr 15 (LSN) – Last Thursday, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) gave permission to Crossroads Television System (CTS) to establish a new religious television channel. CTS, the producers of 100 Huntley Street, will broadcast a variety of Christian-themed programming including talk shows and counselling shows, as well as popular dramas such as Little House On The Prairie. David Mainse, chairman of CTS, said, “Our programs will uphold the ethical values that are held dear by the great majority of Canadians, [who] will be able to watch CTS with no fear of embarrassing program content.”  The CRTC’s unprecedented ruling comes after many years of effort on the part of Crossroads and other Christian broadcasters to break the arbitrary monopoly enjoyed by the New Age “multi-faith” channel,  Vision TV. Unfortunately, it still comes with strings attached: the new station still has to provide “balance,” by giving air time to other denominations and non-Christian religions. No other type of programming is singled out by the CRTC for such “diversity” requirements.
