WASHINGTON, November 1, 2002 (LifeSiteNews.com) – U.S. Democratic Senator Tom Daschle, the Senate Majority Leader, has put aside all pretense and exposed himself as a single-issue pro-abortion activist politician.  Moreover, in writing a begging letter for the National Abortion Rights Action League (NARAL), the Democrat Majority Leader made it plain that Democrat control of the Senate means pro-abortion control of the Senate.  Daschle’s begging letter on behalf of NARAL, disseminated to email lists, contains five separate appeals from Daschle for readers to send money to NARAL, with links to the NARAL website.  “As the Majority Leader of the U.S. Senate, I’ve stood up for a woman’s right to choose, and the pro-choice leadership of the Senate has made a difference by safeguarding women’s rights from the anti-choice agenda of the Bush administration,” writes Daschle, warning against the “Republican leadership” in the Senate.  As explained on the National Right to Life (NRLC) website (www.nrlc.org), Daschle has blocked votes on five major pro-life bills that passed the U.S. House and that are supported by President Bush, including the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act and the bill to ban human cloning. Daschle was able to do this because the Democrats currently control the Senate by a single vote, 51-49.

In the appeal, Daschle says that the re-election of certain Democrat “pro-choice” senators is essential to preserve “pro-choice” control of the Senate and prevent enactment of “harmful legislation,” by which he means pro-life legislation. NRLC points out that on Oct. 21, 1999, all except two Democratic senators voted for an amendment expressing strong support for Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court ruling that permitted abortion on demand.
