TORONTO, February 14, 2013, (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Defund Abortion Rally, a large demonstration by taxpayers against the public financing of abortions, is scheduled to take place at Ontario’s Legislature on Tuesday, March 19.
“The upcoming Defund Abortion Rally will send a message to the new premier of Ontario, Kathleen Wynne, and the rest of the legislative body that that this is an issue that Ontarians care about, and that we will not back down until this medically unnecessary procedure is defunded for good,” said Alissa Golob, Youth Coordinator for Campaign Life Coalition and organizer of the defund abortion campaign.
The event had originally been scheduled to be held at Queens Park last October but was cancelled at the last minute due to safety concerns caused by an approaching hurricane.
That rally will meet a government in flux, following the sudden resignation of Premier Dalton McGuinty, a four-month prorogation of Ontario's Legislature, which resumes on February 19, and a new premier whose cabinet has only recently been sworn into office. “Now is the perfect time to blow this campaign back into full gear,” said Alissa.
Alissa points out that Kathleen Wynne's website says her government is making “efforts to make health care more accessible,” in addition to guaranteeing “the economic security and fairness for all Ontarians.”
“If Ms. Wynne keeps her word,” said Alissa, “then defunding abortion should be a priority for her government since it would achieve both of these goals. Thirty to fifty million dollars a year are spent in Ontario on taxpayer funded abortions, which the majority of Ontarians are not happy with.”
A 2011 Abacus Data poll found that more than 60 percent of Ontarians oppose the status quo of paying for all abortions.
“Campaign Life Coalition Youth holds the position that government-funded abortions are a blatant abuse of tax dollars, are severely unjust, and that these funds can and must be directed away from the killing of our preborn children,” Alissa told LifeSiteNews.com.

“This money can be better spent employing 200 more doctors, 400 more nurses, purchasing 20 more MRI machines, or helping 500 autistic children get the medical care they need it,” Alissa said.
“If Ms. Wynne is listening to her constituents, she would address this issue immediately,” Alissa concluded.
The rally will take place on Tuesday, March 19th, 2013, from 12 noon to 2 p.m. in front of the Ontario Legislature at Queens Park in Toronto.
