(LifeSiteNews) — Despite the expectation of Virginia becoming a “blue state,” politically dominated by Democrats, Virginia voters are turning the tides to elect conservative and pro-life leaders.

“We had entirely liberal, pro-abortion control from the governor to the house to the senate,” Victoria Cobb, President of the Family Foundation, told LifeSiteNews. “And they wiped out all of our pro-life laws.”

But “the electorate reacted,” said Cobb. “The very next election where they had decisions, they picked a pro-life governor, pro-life lieutenant governor, pro-life attorney general, and a pro-life House.”

While the state is successfully returning to a majority of Republican leaders in the House, the state’s Senate is still controlled by Democrats. The next vote for Senate seats will be in November 2023.

“We want to see every state protect the unborn to the absolute possible extent that they can,” Cobb said. “But we also need folks to know that just because we got a ruling that allows us to protect as early as conception doesn’t necessarily mean that that’s going to happen tomorrow. This is still a marathon, not a sprint, in many, many states.”

“We’re excited for the states that are red, and that are able to do that immediately. And those of us that are not, we’re going to have to keep working.”

Glenn Youngkin won the race for governor in November 2021, a surprising result for the Biden administration and the Democratic party.

Cobb also points out that political leaders of both parties seem to repeatedly strive to accomplish the LGBT agenda goals while simultaneously attempting to protect religious freedom, which are two contradictory actions.

When asked about the backlash that Governor Youngkin is receiving for being less conservative than some of the public would like, Cobb says, “No one is perfect. We don’t expect any elected official to walk in and do everything perfectly. Sometimes, I think we get this idea that if we elect ‘our guy’, whoever that might be, that magically, they’re going to do it all right. And that’s very rarely the case.”

Criticism of Youngkin’s conservative values follows rumors of the governor running for president in the future.
