WASHINGTON, D.C., April 1, 2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Democratic Party has tapped a stalwart of the abortion industry with ties to a powerful left-wing labor union to lead its party's organizational structure.

Amy Dacey, the new CEO of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), formerly served as executive director of EMILY's List.

Florida Congresswoman and DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz named Dacey to the position last October. Dacey began her tenure in January.

From 2010 until 2014, she led the powerful abortion political action committee EMILY's List. The group seeks to fund pro-abortion women early in the political cycle, to enhance the candidates' electability by showing them to be financially attractive.

Its name is an acronym: “Early Money Is Like Yeast” (it makes the dough rise).

The powerhouse PAC has raised more than its share of dough since 25 ultra-wealthy women gathered to form the abortion activist group in Ellen Malcolm's basement in 1985.

During the 2012 election cycle, EMILY's List boasted that it had raised $52 million.

EMILY's List dispersed more than $3.8 million directly to candidates (all Democrats) in 2012. They also had $7.7 million in outside spending, the vast majority of it (nearly $6 million) on attack ads against Republicans.

The same year, the group spent more than $9 million on salaries, $5.5 million maintaining its significant fundraising apparatus, and another $5.3 million on administrative costs like travel expenses.

Dacey survived a shakeup following the 2012 election cycle. The watchdog Center for Responsive Politics cites her career as a textbook example of the “revolving door” between lobbyists and political operatives. These lobbyists often “brought their interests with them” into their new role.

“Each one of us is proud that Amy has been asked to lead the DNC and we know the team of Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz and CEO Amy Dacey will be absolutely unstoppable,” said EMILY's List President Stephanie Schriock, who considered pursuing the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in Montana last year herself.

Dacey appears poised to bring EMILY's List slash-and-burn negative campaigning style to the forefront for the Democratic Party in the 2014 election, which some forecast will sweep Republicans back into control of the Senate.

“There's a lot of misinformation and oftentimes in midterm elections, people feel like they have less information without some of these national campaigns,” Dacey said. “Our commitment and our program as 'factivists,' what we do is we hold Republicans accountable when they say things that just aren't true – and we also help to push out our Democratic message in a positive light.”

Dacey wrote a widely mocked fundraising letter in 2012 warning that Republicans are “coming for us and for our women.”

The DNC has signaled that it views its 2013 defeat of Ken Cuccinelli in Virginia as a model for an unexpected 2014 victory – campaigning on a second round of “War on Women” rhetoric that includes abortion, the HHS mandate, and other items microtargeting unmarried women in swing districts.

Kirsten Day, executive director of Democrats for Life of America, told LifeSiteNews that the decision to align the Democratic Party so closely with the abortion industry will alienate a large constituency that might otherwise vote for Democrats on economic or peace issues.

“There are people in my party who would rather be in the minority than include pro-life Democrats,” Day told LifeSiteNews. “That strategy will keep us from winning back the majority. While the new CEO has a strong background in fundraising and an advocacy for Democratic policies, it is the continued failure by the DNC to recruit, support, and embrace pro-life candidates that is continuing to alienate a third of Democrats who do not support abortion-on-demand.”

In addition to the abortion industry, Dacey's elevation further cements the party's ties to an influential and growing labor union, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

Dacey was government relations director for the SEIU, the labor union most closely associated with President Obama. Dacey's predecessor as DNC CEO, Patrick Gaspard, formerly represented the SEIU. Former SEIU President Andrew Stern, a onetime member of Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), was revealed to be the most frequent visitor to the White House in 2009. Obama named Stern as an adviser on reducing the federal debt and placed SEIU Secretary-Treasurer Anna Burger on his Economic Recovery Advisory Board in 2009. In March 2010, Obama named SEIU lawyer Craig Becker to the National Labor Relations Board (NRLB), among many other SEIU appointments.

Dacey's appointment deepens the institutional Democratic Party's ties to the abortion industry and the SEIU.

Aside from two stints at EMILY's List and one at the SEIU, Dacey has worked for New York Congressman Maurice Hinchey (a member of the Democratic Socialists of America), Louis Slaughter, and Sens. Tim Johnson and Mary Landrieu. She was active in John Kerry's 2004 presidential campaign and stayed on to run his Keeping America's Promise PAC. She has also worked for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC).
