TALLAHASSEE (LifeSiteNews) – Whereas Disney may run the Magic Kingdom, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has made it clear that Disney doesn’t run his state.

The governor eviscerated the children’s entertainment company at a media conference on Tuesday after Disney suggested it would work to overturn the newly signed state law that protects children from inappropriate sexual material in primary education.

Referring to Disney’s California-based executives, DeSantis said that “they don’t run this state” and that the media giant had “crossed the line.” He also declared that Disney was “fundamentally dishonest” for doing so.

On Monday, DeSantis signed Florida’s anti-propaganda bill into law after it had been incorrectly labeled the “Don’t Say Gay” law.

The law is correctly known as the “Parental Rights in Education” bill, and it bans the inappropriate teaching of sexual orientation and gender identity to students in kindergarten through grade three.

He called foul on Disney for how ABC covered the story. “It’s interesting when … Disney-owned ABC would put out that on tweet, they’d say, ‘Governor DeSantis signs bill to prohibit instruction and sexual identity and gender identity in some grades.’ Some grades. Why would they say some grades instead of K through three?”

DeSantis also questioned Disney’s sincerity and whether the company was simply virtue-signalling since they did not work to stop the passing of the bill while it was in session.

“I also thought it was interesting,” DeSantis said. “I talked to the Speaker of the House yesterday afternoon. And he said Disney never called them while they were putting this through the House. They didn’t seem to have a problem with it when it was going through. If this was such an affront, why weren’t they speaking up at the outset? And yet they [weren’t].”

Calling out what he viewed as Disney’s hypocrisy on human rights issues, the governor said: “[Y]ou know what, if we … put in the bill that you were not allowed to have curriculum that  discussed the oppression of the Uyghurs in China, Disney would have endorsed that in a second. And that’s the hypocrisy of this.”

He vowed to not bend to big corporations. “They do not control this state,” he stated.

“[W]e’re gonna make sure we’re fighting back when people are threatening our parents and threatening our kids.”
