DETROIT, October 30, 2002 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Although details are sketchy, it appears Detroit’s Cardinal Adam Maida has taken to task three priests who publicly defended the pro-abortion stance of Michigan governor candidate Jennifer Granholm.  Archdiocesan officials told The Detroit News that the cardinal has “addressed the matter.”

Moreover, the paper reports that one of the priests involved in the scandal, Rev. Kenneth R. Kaucheck, put a note in his parish bulletin announcing that he would do ‘penance’ for a week to make up for the damage he caused.  “Please know that I will enter on retreat the week of Oct. 28 to take days of prayer and penance and make reparation for any harm that I may have done to any individual,” he said in the bulletins.  Matt Bowman, a concerned Catholic who has been working to set the record straight on the endorsement of the pro-abortion politicians by the Catholic priests said: “I am overjoyed that he now affirms that Catholics can’t support abortion, I hope Granholm does, too.”
