WINNIPEG, Nov 12 (LSN) Mrs. Helene Sawatzky and her family entered the first stage of a court battle yesterday to fight the imposition of a “do not resuscitate” (DNR) order on the file of her 79-year-old husband Andrew. The hospital gave as a reason for its action that should Mr. Sawatzky become in need of resuscitation, the procedure although it may keep him alive may leave him in a vegetative state. The Sawatzky’s lawyer asked Justice Holly Beard to lift the DNR order until the case could be heard in court.  The judge’s decision on this preliminary matter will come within a week.
