LONDON, Aug 18 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The dehumanization of Down’s syndrome patients, seen by many as a natural result of the much encouraged decision to abort babies discovered to have the disease, has resulted in discrimination towards those with the disorder. A report from the Down’s Syndrome Association (DSA) found that more than one in four people with the condition had been discriminated against by the medical profession.

A survey with 1,509 respondents showed a high degree of dissatisfaction among 28% of parents of Down’s children. The types of discrimination identified included: “dismissing unrelated and treatable medical problems as being an inevitable part of the syndrome; making comments that imply negative judgements about the value of the life of someone with Down’s syndrome;  and use of the word “Mongol” to describe a patient although the term has been excluded from medical usage for more than 20 years.”
