LONDON, May 19 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Yesterday the European Commission approved a draconian measure to set up commissions to try employers for “discrimination” where the burden of proof will rest with the accused.  The directive states that once the complaint facts have been established “a court or tribunal can presume discrimination.”  Moreover, third party organizations and lobbies, such as activist groups, will have the right to file discrimination lawsuits on behalf of claimants.

The Commission’s authority to legislate in this matter came from Article 13 of the Amsterdam Treaty which authorized the commission to take action “to combat discrimination based on sex,  racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, disability, age or sexual orientation”.  The Daily Telegraph reports that the directive calls for “contract compliance” obliging companies to prove that they comply with anti-discrimination law before securing a contract by a public procurement agency.  The measure is likely to be given final approval at the European Union’s council meeting next month.
