SYDNEY, Australia, Nov 24 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Recent news about ignored warnings leading up to the East Timorese massacre is a virtual reproduction of the long-reported news that the United Nations refused to intervene in the Rwandan situation despite being warned prior to the genocide of 800,000.

The London Telegraph reports today that leaked intelligence papers from the Defence Intelligence Organization of the Australian government indicate that the militia rampage that resulted in the slaughter of East Timorese was orchestrated by the Indonesian military to derail the independence vote and could have been predicted.

Michael Hourigan, an Australian lawyer specializing in the recent humanitarian crises notes that the UN orchestrated the independence vote.

Hourigan recalled recently in the National Post that UN and Portuguese negotiators allowed Indonesia to be responsible for security in  the wake of the territory’s independence referendum.

These actions were taken despite the common knowledge that Indonesia has historically a fierce interest in maintaining its take-over of East Timor.

Mainly Catholic East Timor, a former Portuguese colony, was invaded and annexed by Muslim Indonesia in 1975.
