The US president’s brief message pointed to the resurrection of Christ as a beacon of hope. “We can rejoice in Christ’s rising, draw strength and inspiration from His example, and remember that in the end, even death itself will be defeated.”

  The website of Stephen Harper, the Prime Minister of Canada did not carry an Easter greeting to Canadians and the Prime Minister’s office did not return calls from LifeSiteNews.com by deadline.

  According to various estimates the US is between 76 and 85 per cent practising Christian. The CIA World Factbook estimates Canada’s Christian population at approximately 65.9 per cent and Statistics Canada estimates it at 77 per cent as of 2001.
