America is becoming socially suicidal in many ways. Allowing the ACLU and other anti-faith groups to increasingly force faith-based social and health care agencies to shut down can only seriously hurt the entire community.  These agencies, which see their work as a VOCATION of service and love, give what very few secular agencies can ever give.

The arguments over the display of graphic abortion photos continue. We are amazed by the strenuous objections to revealing the disturbing reality of abortion. Abortion is always made an exception. Nearly everything else is allowed to follow the normal social and legal patterns. Read Alissa Golub’s comment about smiling Jewish families and children.

Today’s expose by LSN Latin America correspondent Matthew Hoffman reveals that the policy of making grants from US or Canadian bishops’ aid groups to organizations in developing nations conditional on approval by local bishops may not always be a good idea. Mind you, most of the Mexican bishops are admirable for their exceptional support for life and family. There are however the odd situations, as we report today, where a bishop’s support is no confirmation whatever that local groups would be worthy of Catholic or other Christian funding.
