CHARLOTTESVILLE, September 2, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A Veterans’ Cemetery employee who was fired for giving religious blessings at funerals and saying “God bless you” to visitors has been re-hired with apologies.

Patrick Cubbage, 54, a retired police officer and a Vietnam veteran, worked part time as an “honour guard” at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Burlington County, N.J. He was fired last year for saying “God bless you and this family, and God bless the United States of America” at cemetery flag services—supposedly a violation of the separation of church and state.  With the backing of the Rutherford Institute, a conservative legal organization based in Charlottesville, Va., Cubbage fought back and won.  For CNSNews coverage:  https://www.cnsnews.com/Pentagon/Archive/200308/PEN20030811a.html
