BRUSSELS, July 24, 2002 (LSN.ca) – The European Union is going to give the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) US$34 millon for “sexual and reproductive health” programs including abortion, contraception and sterilization in developing countries to make up for the U.S. decision to cancel its contribution. The European commission says it will send the money to projects run by the UNPFA and the International Planned Parenthood Federation. A spokesman for Poul Nielson, the EU’s development commissioner, claimed: “The losers from this [U.S.] decision will be some of the most vulnerable people on earth,” including 80,000 women the pro-abortionists claim “die every year from unsafe abortions.” Mr. Nielson, a former Danish development minister, argues that organisations such as UNPFA and IPPF are part of the solution, not part of the problem. However, evidence from Uganda proves the opposite. There, national government abstinence programs have resulted in the world’s first successful AIDS reductions. By contrast, countries saddled with IPPF and UNFPA condom programs continue to suffer without relief.
