STRASBOURG, September 8, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – An attempt by some members of the European Parliament’s Women’s Rights Committee to have the Parliament publish a formal complaint against Portugal for denying the Dutch abortion boat has met with little support. The news comes after more countries from Eastern Europe have joined the European Union, bringing a new wave of EU politicians many of whom are pro-life and pro-family.

The British pro-life non-governmental agency, Christian Action Research & Education (CARE), published a report stating that “Before the June elections such a resolution would have been passed overwhelmingly,” but “On this occasion, due to vociferous opposition by Polish women MEPs amongst others, there was insufficient support for the motion to even be put to the vote.”  LifeSiteNews.com reported last month that an unapologetically pro-life and pro-family MEP Anna Zaborska was elected to head the European Parliament’s Committee for Women’s Rights and Gender Equality much to the chagrin of radical feminists from Western Europe.  Read related LifeSiteNews.com coverage:  New Chairman of Women’s Rights in European Parliament is Pro-Life – Move Infuriates Some   https://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2004/aug/04082702.html   tv
