BEIJING, October 11, 2001 ( – While Chinese manufactured abortion pills are available in the United States with FDA approval, China is backing away from all-out endorsement of the drugs. The Beijing Youth Daily reported on Wednesday that the State Drug Administration banned the sale of abortion pills at pharmacies and said Beijing drugstores had already stopped selling the drugs.

Reuters reports that the newspaper quoted specialists as saying unregulated use of the abortion drug could lead to incomplete abortions, major blood loss, infections and impotence.
