TORONTO, , September 27, 2002 (LSN.ca) – The National Post reports today on the alarming results of a study on the drug ecstacy, published today in the journal Science, put out by the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

The study concludes that even one night’s use of the drug popularly used by youth at so-called rave dances, could cause long-lasting brain damage. This damage may lead to early onset of Parkinsons and other neurodegenerative diseases according to the study. Baboons and monkeys given the usual party doses of the drug were left with “severe” neurotoxicity and brain damage. It is feared the damage may be irreversible.  Dr. Donald Calne of the University of British Columbia is quoted responding to use of the drug by young people, “There is no way they should even risk it.”  See the National Post article at https://www.nationalpost.com/home/story.html?id={F6CEA120-E1F1-4CA5-8EE4-789646C7E5BD}  The complete article in Science, The Perils of Ecstacy, can be viewed at   https://www.sciencemag.org/  Paid membership or a $10 one article payment is required to view the article.
