STOCKBRIDGE, Massachusetts (LifeSiteNews) — A faithful priest called on Catholics to hold the Olympics accountable for their blasphemous opening ceremony mocking the Last Supper.

During a July 28 homily at the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy, Father Chris Alar discussed the opening spectacle at the 2024 Olympic Games in France, calling on Catholics to condemn the blasphemy.

“Every sin is slight compared to blasphemy because blasphemy is a sin against God directly which is greater than even sins against our neighbor,” he said, quoting St. Thomas Aquinas.

Thomas Jolly, the ceremony’s homosexual director, has claimed after international outrage that the blasphemous ceremony was not meant to imitate the Last Supper but rather pagan gods. However, the ceremony clearly depicts a banquet with drag queens parodying Leonardo da Vinci’s painting The Last Supper.

Alar lamented that the blasphemy took place in a formerly Catholic country, saying “France is the eldest daughter of the Church. Paris is the city of the Saints.”

“Such mockery is a deliberate attack on Jesus Christ and a direct challenge to the 1.2 billion Catholics in the world and our Catholic faith,” he declared. “Whether they like it or not Catholicism, it is the foundation of Western civilization, and the secular world wants to do away with that.”

“The secular world is determined to exterminate Catholicism because it is the only remaining voice (…) against abortion, same-sex marriage, transgenderism indoctrination of our youth, and the destruction of religious liberty,” he explained.

Alar congratulated Catholic prelates for condemning the ceremony, including Bishop Robert Barron, Bishop Joseph Strickland, Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone, and the French bishops.

Cordileone said the ceremony reflected “secular fundamentalism” having “infiltrated the Olympics, even to the point of blaspheming the religion of over a billion people,” and Strickland called it a “new low for our human community.”

Alar referenced Barron’s statement “that in this deeply secularist post-modern society, Christians need to resist and to make our voices heard. It’s one thing for us just to say, ‘how terrible this is what are we going to do now?'”

“In our faith, we don’t riot, we don’t burn things down,” he said, referencing an instance some years ago when 12 people were killed over a cartoon of Muhammad.

“That is not how we Christians respond,” Alar continued. “However, we are to defend God and our faith, so answer the call of the bishop and make your voice heard that you do not accept the mockery of God.”

Alar encouraged Catholics to contact the Olympics to demand a proper apology for the outrage after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) issued an apology “if anyone was offended” for the anti-Christian opening ceremonies, alleging that they did not mean to represent the Last Supper.

The apology has since been condemned by many on social media, and many faithful Catholics are organizing prayer rallies in reparation for the offenses.

“We don’t have black praise and worship services, but we have black masses,” Alar declared. “That’s because the evil one knows the true faith. The evil one knows where Christ is present.”

“Let us make reparation today for the sins and ingratitude and the blasphemy against the Sacred Heart,” he concluded.
