WASHINGTON, D.C., September 28, 2005, (LifeSiteNews.com) – The old saying “tell a lie often enough and people will begin to believe it” has been reinforced by the events surrounding the hijacking of Fr. Mychal Judge’s reputation after his heroics during the September 11 terrorist attacks.
The Concerned Women for America posted an editorial, written by Dennis Lynch, that details the attempts, and seeming success, of homosexual activists to portray Fr. Judge as a “gay priest”. Mr. Lynch detailed the life and death of Fr. Mike, a Franciscan priest who died ministering to the victims in the twin towers of New York. Lynch goes on to say that “Prior to Fr. Mike’s death, everyone who knew him for any length of time would never describe him as a homosexual.”
The source of the mis-representation, says Lynch, was due to the quoting by the newspapers of gay activist Brendan Fay, who said Fr. Mike (who ministered to gays as well as AIDS victims) was a homosexual. Writes Lynch “After the first series of newspapers stories reported that Father Mike was a homosexual, suddenly politicians were standing up in Congress lamenting the death of “Father Mike, the gay priest.”
Mr. Lynch recounts the shocking response of one newspaper editorÂwho was challenged onÂthe paper’sÂreporting. “The editor wrote that it really didn’t matter if Fr. Mike was a homosexual or not. Homosexuals are a disadvantaged group, the editor said, and if the story helped them with their self-esteem, then Father Mike would be happy. In other words, the truth about Father Mike being a faithful Catholic priest didn’t matter in our Politically Correct world.”
