TORONTO, Aug 2, 2001 (LSN.ca) – With the authority of parents in Ontario seriously called into question by the handling of the Aylmer spanking case, pro-family leaders have scheduled a family rights demonstration in Toronto on Monday. The demonstration at Queen’s Park will get underway at 10am featuring various speakers including Ontario Coalition leader Giuseppe Gori.

The demonstration hopes to convey two main messages to media and government officials: 1. God has given families exclusive authority to train, to educate, to discipline and to care for children. 2. Government officials have no right to interfere in the affairs of a family, unless abuse is proven (according to the Criminal Code, including Section 43, and in compliance with the principles of fundamental justice as defined in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms)

The organizers note that the media wants to focus the debate on spanking. “But spanking is just the tip of the iceberg. This is an issue of freedom, family rights and the role of government.”
