WASHINGTON, D.C. (LifeSiteNews) – The Federal Bureau of Investigation “cannot be trusted with the handling of” a computer once belonging to presidential son Hunter Biden, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) told Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz this week based on the testimony of unnamed whistleblowers.

In October 2020, the New York Post released a series of bombshell reports about a laptop Hunter had abandoned at a Delaware computer repair shop, which contained scores of emails and texts detailing how the Biden family made millions of dollars through Hunter’s facilitation of meetings between his father Joe, formerly the Vice President of the United States under Barack Obama, and business interests around the world. Democrats tried to dismiss the story as “misinformation,” while their allies in traditional and social media worked to suppress word from getting out.

The Biden camp never specifically denied the authenticity of the material, but its allies including Facebook and Twitter took steps to suppress the story under the pretext of “misinformation” and “hacked materials,” despite abundant corroboration.

“Recently, my office heard from individuals with knowledge of the FBI’s apparent corruption,” Johnson wrote to Horowitz on August 23, the Washington Examiner reports. “After the FBI obtained the Hunter Biden laptop from the Wilmington, DE computer shop, these whistleblowers stated that local FBI leadership told employees, ‘you will not look at that Hunter Biden laptop’ and that the FBI is ‘not going to change the outcome of the election again.’ Further, these whistleblowers allege that the FBI did not begin to examine the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop until after the 2020 presidential election —  potentially a year after the FBI obtained the laptop in December 2019.”

“While I understand your hesitation to investigate a matter that may be related to an ongoing investigation, it is clear to me based on numerous credible whistleblower disclosures that the FBI cannot be trusted with the handling of Hunter Biden’s laptop,” the senator said. “I hope you understand that the longer your office stands on the sidelines and delays investigating the FBI’s actions, the harder it will be for you to uncover the truth and hold individuals accountable for wrongdoing.’

“I call on you to immediately investigate the FBI’s handling of Hunter Biden’s laptop and begin by obtaining the history of the investigative actions taken by the FBI on Hunter Biden’s laptop which should be available on the FBI’s case management system, Sentinel,” Johnson urged. “This case file should provide valuable information about the steps the FBI took to examine the laptop.”

More than a year after Biden’s victory over former President Donald Trump, left-wing media outlets including the New York Times and Washington Post began to admit the authenticity of the material from the laptop. But by then the suppression of the story had paid off; a survey of key swing states conducted by the conservative Media Research Center and The Polling Company weeks after the election found that 45.1% of Biden voters in those states had been unaware of the Hunter scandal, and that 9.4% of them would not have voted for Biden had they known.

In mid-2021, it was also revealed that Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who had been hired by Trump, had agreed in the summer of 2020 to hold off on seeking search warrants and issuing grand jury subpoenas related to Hunter’s foreign business dealings and potential tax violations, and that he specifically did so on the advice of unidentified “officials involved in the case” who wanted to avoid the “possibility that the investigation would become a months-long campaign issue.”

As a result, the general public was kept in the dark about the fact that the federal government knew the story being maligned as foreign propaganda was in fact true. This week, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed that his social media company suppressed the story in response to the FBI warning the platform that misinformation was about to go public.

The Examiner adds that this revelation follows previous whistleblower testimony to Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) that FBI agents “opened an assessment which was used by an FBI headquarters team to improperly discredit negative Hunter Biden information as disinformation and caused investigative activity to cease,” and “verified and verifiable derogatory information on Hunter Biden [to be] falsely labeled as disinformation.”

FBI Director Christopher Wray said early this month that he found the whistleblower claims “deeply troubling.” But to date, no action to hold accountable those responsible or reform the Bureau has been taken.
