SYDNEY, May 2, 2001 (LSN.ca) – The Australian Catholic Bishops Conference is set to go to the High Court to argue against a federal court decision last year allowing lesbians and single women use of in vitro fertilization to become pregnant. The High Court has granted intervenor status in the case to the feminist group, “The Women’s Electoral Lobby,” who will argue against the church’s position.

The Catholic Church condemns all in vitro fertilization since, among other things, it causes the loss of life for numerous embryos created. The argument in this case will be more specifically to the tragedy of allowing children to be born through this illicit method, leaving them intentionally without an intact family.
