CEBU, Philippines — On the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe, a crowd of pregnant women and new mothers gathered for a healing Mass at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral. The pro-life event, sponsored by HLI Pilipinas under the direction of country director Rene Bullecer, MD, emphasized the crucial role of motherhood and the gift of human life from the moment of conception.
Celebrant Monsignor Ruben Labajo, PC, the Assistant Vicar General, urged Catholic Christian mothers never to give in to the lies and empty promises of the Culture of Death. Abortion, he said, is often disguised as a source of relief from the so-called hassles of pregnancy, when in reality it is sold with great pressure to believe the overpopulation myth.
After praying a special blessing for the unborn, Monsignor Labajo reminded the faithful to embrace the gift of life and to not be trapped by the evils of contraception and abortion prevalent in society.

Dr. Bullecer said in a media interview following the Mass: “This is our way of first recognizing and honoring Our Blessed Mother, Our Lady of Guadalupe, who is the Patroness of the Unborn. This special Mass salutes all mothers who have answered positively to their special role as child-bearers and the vocation to motherhood.”
He added: “Just as Our Lady appeared to Juan Diego so long ago to help the Mexican people embrace a Culture of Life, the joyful message of hope is still true for all peoples – in all cultures.”
