David and Jason Benham

David and Jason Benham are twin brothers and entrepreneurs who made national headlines when HGTV canceled their planned television show upon learning the pair had spoken publicly against the “homosexual agenda” and abortion-on-demand.

But the Christian brothers’ abrupt dismissal by network executives hasn’t dissuaded them from speaking up for faith and family.  Both Benhams spoke Wednesday at a rally outside Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan’s North Carolina office, criticizing the senator for failing to support the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. The act would ban abortions after 20 weeks, when medical experts say babies’ nervous systems are developed enough to feel pain.

“By turning a blind eye to this bill, Senator Hagan not only shows that she is pro-abortion, but she proves that she is anti-life,” David said.  Holding up his phone, he said that he would post the short statement on Twitter and encouraged others to do the same.

After a few jokes about the loss of their HGTV show – “I really believe it was Jason’s fault we got fired … they weren’t real happy with how he was looking on camera,” David said of his identical twin – the pair addressed media accusations that their pro-life views mean they are “anti-woman.”

“Anti-woman?” David asked incredulously. “The last I checked, I really love women,” he said, eliciting chuckles from the crowd. “I love my daughters, I love my wife, and I’m willing to stand up and lay my life down for those women that are in a very difficult situation and think that abortion is their only choice.”
