WASHINGTON, June 11, 2002 (LSN.ca) – The US Census Bureau has reported that the foreign-born population of the United States numbered 31.1 million in 2000.  This represents a 57 percent increase over 1990.  The figures echo predictions made in Pat Buchanan’s recent release “The Death of the West” in which he warned that low birth rates, combined with abortion and contraception would lead to America’s survival being dependent on immigration.  The proportion of foreign-born at 11.1 percent in 2000 is the highest since 1930.  In 2000, 51.7 percent of the foreign-born population were from Latin America, 26.4 percent from Asia and 15.8 percent from Europe. Together, Latin America and Asia accounted for 78.2 percent of the foreign-born population, up from 28.3 percent in 1970.  See the Census Bureau release:  https://www.census.gov/Press-Release/www/2002/cb02cn117.html
