VANCOUVER, February 14, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Canadian Gay activist and New Democratic Party MP Svend Robinson, in his first media interview since his tearful admission to theft of an expensive gold ring last year, told CBC News Sunday that a return to politics for him is not out of the question.
“I’d like to think that people could understand and respect the fact that what happened that Good Friday was so totally out of character that that’s not who I am,” Robinson said.
“He certainly seemed to leave that door open,” said NDP Leader Jack Layton in comments made later to Sun Media. “Svend is a remarkably successful politician … and I know there would be a huge welcome for him across the country if he were to come back,” Layton claimed.
Two days before stealing a $50,000 ring from a Richmond, B.C. auction house, Robinson was shopping for an engagement ring for his Cuban homosexual partner, Max Riveron, according to a Vancouver jeweller.
In addition to his homosexual rights advocacy Robinson has also been a militant advocate for abortion and euthanasia.
