OAKVILLE, ON, May 8, 2001 (LSN.ca) – Barbara Cadbury, the founder of the Planned Parenthood Federation of Canada (PPFC), has died at age 91 in Oakville, Ontario. Planned Parenthood reports that Mrs Cadbury and her late husband George led the campaign for ‘family planning’ in Canada throughout the 60s, and worked with the infamous eugenicist Margaret Sanger as editor of the magazine “Round the World News of Population and Birth Control”, published by the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA).
Following Sanger’s racist reasoning that the populations of colored people should be reduced, in 1954, under IPPF’s auspices, the Cadburys helped establish the FPA of Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) and convinced the government to help fund the organization. A year later, they assisted in the founding of the FPA of Jamaica.
For their work in promoting ‘family planning’ the Cadburys were made members of the Order of Canada in 1990.
