April 16, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The American Life League is urging groups across the country to investigate Planned Parenthood affiliates after four San Antonio, Texas abortion facilities were issued ‘cease and desist’ orders by the Department of State Health Services for performing illegal abortions.

Due to direct investigation from pro-life groups in the area, the abortion businesses were discovered performing medical abortions without a license.

“So much for Planned Parenthood’s ‘safe, legal and rare’ mantra,” said Jim Sedlak, vice president of American Life League. “Women and children are abused and dying from Planned Parenthood’s sex business every day, Planned Parenthood performs more abortions than any other group in the nation, and they can’t even abide by a simple licensing law.”

Texas law requires abortion facilities:

– Have at least one licensed physician on staff
– Only perform abortions by a licensed physician
– Provide sanitary and hygienic conditions
– Provide annual reports of each abortion performed

“These regulations aren’t difficult,” Sedlak said. “And yet Planned Parenthood can’t provide the Department of Health with these simple requirements. Why?”

San Antonio Coalition for Life, along with Texas Alliance for Life, worked for months to uncover the illegal activity. All four abortion businesses have stopped performing abortions and the Planned Parenthood on Babcock Road is being investigated for further violations.

The news comes in the wake of a nationwide investigation by California-based Live Action Films exposing institutionalized and often illegal Planned Parenthood cover-ups of child abuse and molestation.

Texas Alliance for Life has announced renewed efforts to revoke state funding of Planned Parenthood.

“We are inspired by the work of pro-lifers in Texas and are grateful for their hard work uncovering the depth of Planned Parenthood’s disdain for human life, for women and for the law,” Sedlak said. “We encourage pro-lifers everywhere to follow Texas’ lead and expose Planned Parenthood’s trail of tax-funded illegal activity.”
