PARIS, Apr 21(LSN) – Catholic World News reported this morning that France’s socialist government is preparing to legalize homosexual marriage. The measure called a “contract of social union which will give homosexual or heterosexual couples living together, legal rights currently enjoyed by married people. Furthermore, mayors in towns will be asked to officiate at the contract signings.  The measure has led to nearly 12,000 of France’s mayors signing a petition to halt the governments plans.  Michel Pinton, the former secretary-general of the large Union for French Democracy party (UDF) and now mayor of the small village of Felletin in central France, initiated the petition warning France’s 36,000 mayors that they would be asked to officiate at these “weddings.”  Pinton who has been threatened with law suits by homosexual activists over the issue wrote mayors saying, “In our sick French society, the two things that are still healthy, the family and the town council, are now being threatened by a catastrophic weakness.”“It may be that this new form of marriage, which you will have to officiate at, clashes with your conscience.”
