OTTAWA, April 5, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) — After PEI’s Premier Wade MacLaughlan announced his Liberal government will make abortion available on the Island by the end of 2016, in response to a threatened lawsuit by abortion activists, Action Canada for Sexual and Reproductive Rights is calling for even more abortion access.

The Ottawa-based group wants the Liberals to rollout the “gold-standard medical abortion drug Mifegymiso across the province” and “to expand access to both surgical and medical abortion services outside of Charlottetown.”

But as Campaign Life Coalition’s Matt Wojciechowski points out: “There is nothing new here.”

“If Premier MacLauchlan thought that by giving into the demands of these activists he was going to shut them up for a while, he’s in for a big surprise,” Wojciechowski told LifeSiteNews.

“The abortion industry has a limitless demand for abortion and this current leadership just doesn’t have the backbone to stand up to it.”

MacLauchlan announced March 31 that Health PEI was looking into opening a women’s “reproductive health center” by the end of 2016, and was quoted in the CBC that “in the context it would be in a hospital setting.”

Catholic Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who as Liberal leader had hinted that PEI could be forced to make abortion available on-Island, tweeted his approval of MacLauchlan’s decision.

The openly homosexual premier had campaigned on the promise that he would bring abortion to the Island. After winning the May 2015 election, MacLauchlan loosened restrictions on abortion to allow Island women to book them directly at the Moncton Hospital, without a referral from a doctor or Health PEI.

In January 2016, Abortion Access Now PEI filed a notice that it would sue the government if it did not provide access to abortion on the Island. The abortion activist group received litigation support from the pro-abortion Toronto-based Women’s Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF).

Action Canada, which was formed in 2014 with the merger of the Canadian Federation for Sexual Health (formerly Planned Parenthood Canada), Action Canada for Population and Development (ACPD), and Canadians for Choice, responded to MacLaughlan’s March 31 announcement with the claim that abortion was a human right.

“Under the Canada Health Act, provincial governments have a responsibility to ensure that all people have access to essential health services, including abortion – it also happens to be their human right,” it stated.

“International law guarantees all people the right to life, liberty, security and health, which includes access to a comprehensive package of sexual and reproductive health services (including abortion services).”

“Action Canada advocates for the same pro-abortion ideology of Planned Parenthood and all the other radical groups whose raison d’etre is abortion, the intentional killing of innocent human life,” Wojciechowski said.

“Contrary to what they claim, abortion is not an international human right, it is not international law and governments have no obligation to legalize killing their future citizens.”
