TORONTO, Ontario, January 27, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Liz Millican, 27, describes herself as a “normal person” who had never “thought much about the issue of abortion.” But that all changed for two reasons: Liz fell in love with the man of her dreams, and around the same time, she began to wonder what God’s thoughts were on abortion.

Through a reawakening in her Christian faith, Liz came to the realization that “God would obviously oppose abortion.” She reasoned that whatever God opposed could only have a “negative impact on the person as a whole” and so she decided to find out how abortion affected women.

She googled “I regret my abortion” and what popped up on her computer screen surprised her.

“There were plenty of results”, she said to LifeSiteNews in an interview. “It was eye opening!”

Liz encountered testimonies from post abortion women who had courageously decided to be silent no more about the emotional and psychological trauma they suffered on account of their choice to abort their baby.

“I was amazed by the effect that abortion has on women,” she said.

The research the young woman carried out convinced her that most women choose abortion because they feel afraid or abandoned.

“We need to become a society that seeks to support women in all circumstances, instead of leaving women to believe that their only option is abortion,” she said.

At this time, Liz had been married to the love of her life, Jared, for three years.  His influence in her life made her wonder why more women don’t choose adoption instead of abortion.

Jared had been adopted. Liz says she was horrified at the idea that her beloved husband could have so easily been a victim of abortion if his mother had made a different choice.

When Liz learned from a local Crisis Pregnancy Centre that many women do not choose adoption because they think abortion is more socially acceptable than adoption, it was then that she knew that “abortion should be illegal.”

The young woman knows with certainty that if Jared had been aborted and not adopted, she simply “wouldn’t be the same person.”

“He’s been so significant in my life. We complement each other so well. I don’t think I would be married if he was never born.”

Liz believes that abortion-minded women need to change their perception of adoption. “Some women believe that adoption means abandoning their child instead of viewing adoption as giving a child to a loving family who can’t otherwise have a child.”

“The pro-abortion argument of ‘who will care for the children?’ doesn’t hold any water for me,” she says, adding that she knows that there are families who “wait so long to adopt and may only get one child or none at all.” She pointed out that Jared’s parents were “blessed” to have adopted him and that they would have adopted more children if there had been more available.

Because Jared is alive and at her side, Liz knows that she will always respect women who make what she calls the “tough choice to give their precious baby to someone else.”

As the young wife holds her husband close, allowing a little room for a tummy-bump that will come to fruition in August, she also knows that she will be forever grateful that Jared was born.
