WASHINGTON, June 27 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Scientists announced yesterday that they had coded a draft of the human genetic code. While extravagant possibilities were laid out for the research,  even anti-life politicians addressed possible abuses of the technology. US President Bill Clinton warned that “We must guarantee that genetic information cannot be used to stigmatize or discriminate against any individual or group.”

However, the warnings from pro-lifers are much greater. When the scientists speak of a “cure”  for genetically detectable diseases by screening, they are referring, for the most part, to killing off an already created human embryo – whether in the mother’s womb or created artificially by in vitro fertilization. Fears of the creation of a genetic underclass and designer babies are already being realized by such screening procedures taking place throughout the world in countries which permit abortion.
