COLOGNE, Germany, July 15, 2002 (LSN.ca) – After the German political party, Christian Democratic Union (CDU) put forward policies in favour of special rights for homosexuals, Cardinal Joachim Meisner of Cologne asked the party to stop using the name “Christian.”

Earlier this year, CDU leader Edmund Stoiber appointed Katherina Reiche, 28, as the shadow spokeswoman for family affairs.  Conservatives criticized the appointment since Reiche is an unmarried mother of two and is behind the courting of the homosexual movement.  The elections are set for September 22.  See the coverage in Die Welt (in German):  https://www.welt.de/daten/2002/07/15/0715de344481.htx
