REGENSBURG, Germany, May 7, 2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A young mother is being accused of brutally killing her newborn son a mere 30 minutes after giving birth. Prosecutors allege she killed the child to preserve her “far-reaching sexual … contacts.”

As reported by the Daily Mail, Nadine Koenig, 20, of Regensburg in the district of Bavaria, allegedly gave birth to her son last February at her parents’ home.  She smothered him and eventually cut his throat before leaving to go to a disco club.

The baby’s body was found in a shopping basket near the Danube River, where Koenig had hid the corpse.

During the trial, judges heard that Koenig killed her son because she considered that being a single mother would interfere with her unconstrained sex-life.

“You smothered the baby then you slit its throat, causing the infant to bleed to death,” prosecutor Ulrike Klein said at the trial.  “You could not bear the thought of your far-reaching sexual and social contacts being jeopardized by this baby.”

If convicted, Koenig faces life imprisonment.

After Koenig’s arrest, her mother, Kerstin, committed suicide by throwing herself in the path of a train.  Her suicide note stated, “I know what my daughter did.”  Koenig’s family claimed they were unaware of her pregnancy.

Koenig’s crime is the latest in a string of horrific infant-murders.

In 2012, a German mother was accused of killing five of her newborn children.  The woman had two children, but kept all later pregnancies a secret from her husband, brutally killing each newborn baby when they were born.  Her reason for her actions was to preserve the standard of living to which she and her husband had grown accustomed.

Last summer, an Illinois teen beat her daughter to death after giving birth to her on a camping trip with her family.  According to the court documents, the woman “did not want to tell her parents for fear of disappointment.”

Also last summer, a Pennsylvania woman gave birth to her son in a bar bathroom, smothered him, stashed him in a garbage bag in the toilet, and then returned to the bar to watch a wrestling bout on TV with her friends.  Her companions did not know she was even pregnant.  She was sentenced to life in prison last month.

Some believe that the root of these crimes lies in a flippancy towards life that was introduced and is intensified by the ubiquity of abortion.
