BERLIN, July 18, 2002 (LSN.ca) – Germany’s Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe upheld the homosexual marriage law by 5 to 3 on Wednesday rejecting a complaint from conservative states Bavaria, Saxony and Thuringia that the law violates constitutional provisions protecting marriage and the family. Edmund Stoiber, the Bavarian chancellor who leads the opposition Christian Social Union, said he “regrets” the decision but would not overturn it if conservatives win power in the next election.  The law allows homosexuals to “seal” their partnerships at official registries and requires a court decision for “divorce.” It also grants same-sex couples inheritance and health insurance rights on par with married couples. An estimated 4,400 German homosexuals have taken advantage of the system since August 2001, a number that is now expected to increase.  Media are reporting that the law “underlines growing tolerance in a country where the Nazis persecuted gays…” despite the fact that the victims of Nazism were first, Jews, and second, practising Christians—and that homosexual networks flourished inside Nazi officialdom.  To read wire coverage see:  https://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20020717/ap_on_re_eu/germany_gay_couples_6   To read about homosexual cliques within the Nazi Party see:  https://www.abidingtruth.com/pinkswastika/book.html   (LSN.ca does not endorse all of Pink Swastika’s findings, but the book offers a much-needed and thought-provoking perspective)
