JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, May 2 (LifeSiteNews.com) – In recent months and years, Canada, the US state of Vermont, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Iceland and France have all passed laws allowing homosexual couples to register their unions.

The Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) reports that South Africa is next in line and may be the first country to legalize homosexual marriage since it recently included “sexual orientation” as a prohibited ground of discrimination in its constitution. Government officials have said that a decision whether to officially recognize the marriage of a lesbian couple in Capetown will be made May 29.  Ed Cain, publisher of Signposts, a conservative South African newsletter, told CBN that Christians in the country are sponsoring a True Marriage Awareness day on May 15. Cain expressed the alarm felt by Christians in South Africa with regard to the upcoming changes.  “Once a Bible-believing pastor refuses to marry a homosexual couple, we will have this situation created where he will be taken to court for discriminating,” said Cain. “He may be let off with a warning; he may be fined. We’re hoping we are not looking at imprisonment at this stage.”
