Pray for an end to IVF and the protection of human embryos: Join our prayer pledge
(LifeSiteNews) — A New York Republican congressman said he supports women’s “current access” to abortion in the Empire State – which includes abortion through all nine months of pregnancy, even up until the moment of birth.
Congressman Marc Molinaro recently released an ad boasting about his support for abortion, embryo-destroying in-vitro fertilization, and birth control.

“Let me tell you exactly where I stand on the important issue of reproductive care,” Molinaro said, using the language employed by pro-abortion activists.
“I believe health decisions should be made between a woman and her doctor, not Washington. I was the first Republican to back federal protection for IVF and support federal access to birth control,” Molinaro continued.
“And I kept my promise to oppose a national abortion ban, maintaining current access here in New York,” the congressman added. “I’m Marc Molinaro and I approve this message because I believe in supporting all women and the choices they make,” he said to end the ad.
Molinaro’s ad appeared to receive positive coverage from left-leaning Politico. The outlet said Molinaro’s ad “flips the script on Democrats” who have been running on a pro-abortion platform. Molinaro also shared the story on X.
“The 30-second spot is no frills,” Politico wrote favorably. “It features the GOP first-term lawmaker looking into the camera to voice what he’s expressed in written responses to Democrats’ recent attacks on him as anti-abortion.”
Molinaro is running against Democrat Josh Riley.
The Democrat candidate said he will “fight like hell to put Roe v. Wade back into law” and has criticized Molinaro for campaigning with pro-life New York Congresswoman Kat Cammack, “an anti-abortion extremist who co-chairs the House’s leading anti-abortion caucus.”
In New York, “current access” means allowing babies to be killed through all nine months of pregnancy, up until the moment of birth. Former Governor Andrew Cuomo, whom Molinaro lost to in a 2018 gubernatorial race, signed legislation in 2019 declaring abortion a “fundamental right.” The Democratic governor subsequently ordered the One World Trade Center to be lit up in pink.
Molinaro largely supported the proposal signed into law while running for governor in 2018. “I understand the need, should the Supreme Court suggest that [abortion is] not a constitutional right – and it is,” Molinaro told the Times-Union in October 2018. “Should the Supreme Court suggest it’s not a constitutional right, the state would need to act, to at least codify, so that it’s not treated as a criminal or penal violation.”
While the state appears to have limits after 24 weeks of pregnancy, those can easily be ignored by claiming even the “risk” of “mental health” issues.
“After 24 weeks, abortion is permitted if your medical provider decides your fetus is not viable or your life, physical health, or mental health is at risk,” according to the attorney general’s office. That practically allows for abortion at any time, as any physician can simply declare that a woman appears to be at risk of depression or anxiety if she continues with the pregnancy. However, medical experts have affirmed a direct abortion is never truly necessary.
Consistent with his socially liberal beliefs, Molinaro also said he supports same-sex “marriage.”
Despite his pro-abortion ad, Molinaro does have a perfect score from the National Right to Life Committee, based on seven votes. Those votes include support for the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act and a resolution condemning attacks on pro-life pregnancy centers. He also opposed funding military abortions.
He also voted to support allowing states to give welfare dollars to pregnancy help centers and supported a requirement that pregnant university students receive accommodations and are educated about their rights.
Molinaro’s support for IVF also highlights a divide within the Republican movement. Some Republicans, like Texas Senator Ted Cruz, characterize IVF as a “miraculous medical technology.”
In reality, the procedures often require the destruction of dozens of embryonic human children and require the separation of sex from procreation.
American Life League has even suggested IVF kills more lives every year than the abortion industry.
Cruz and Alabama Senator Katie Britt proposed pro-IVF legislation in response to an Alabama Supreme Court ruling in February that affirmed human embryos, even in cold storage, are human beings. The ruling came after embryos were destroyed when a client at an IVF facility accidentally dropped embryos and killed them. The Cruz-Britt bill would withdraw federal Medicaid funding for states that prohibit IVF.
“This technology is incredibly lethal for embryonic children in their most vulnerable state of human development,” American Life League’s Dwain Currier said in response.
“IVF has no value because everything about it is contrary to marriage, procreation, and human dignity. IVF isn’t wrong just because it kills human beings, it’s wrong throughout the entire process,” Currier said in his detailed video.
The pro-abortion MedPage Today also acknowledged “discarding embryos is inherent to the process.”
