PHILADELPHIA, April 12, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Tens of thousands of pro-life activists posted messages on Twitter on Friday with the hashtag #Gosnell to break through a pervasive media blackout that continues to envelope mainstream media outlets from the Washington Post and New York Times to the Big Three cable networks.
Some 23.600 Twitter messages were sent using the abortionist's last name within one hour — 11 a.m. Eastern.
A screenshot shows, enough people have used the term on the online messenger service to make it the site's top trending term.
The tweets have totalled more than 10,000 messages an hour since 9 a.m.

The term was also the top search term on Politico. However, the center-left publication has yet to carry any stories about the Philadelphia abortionist on trial for murder.
Several pro-life groups organized a day-long “tweetfest” with the hashtag to protest the story's absence from mainstream media outlets.
Ten Congressmen made special order speeches on the floor of the House of Representatives yesterday to ask why the trial's grisly details were not better known.
Rep. Christopher Smith, R-NJ, said, “If Dr. Gosnell had walked into a nursery and shot seven infants with an AR-15, it would be national news and the subject of presidential hand-wringing.”
“Mr. President, your silence is deafening,” said Rep. Scott Perry, R-PA.
Liberal feminist Kirsten Powers, a Fox News regular and a columnist for the Daily Beast, wrote in USA Today, “This should be front page news. When Rush Limbaugh attacked Sandra Fluke, there was non-stop media hysteria…Yet, accusations of babies having their heads severed — a major human rights story if there ever was one — doesn't make the cut.“
Their efforts met with success. CNN's Anderson Cooper has announced he will cover the Gosnell trial on tonight's “360 with Anderson Cooper.”
Gosnell's trial is currently underway for “snipping” the spinal columns of seven babies born alive. His untrained staff administered an inappropriate amount of sedative to 41-year-old immigrant Karnamaya Mongar, killing her.
If convicted, he could face the death penalty.
