PHILADELPHIA, PA, May 19, 2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Kermit Gosnell, the convicted mass murderer and late-term abortionist who cut newborn babies' spinal cords with scissors, was “the devil,” according to an attorney representing one of his former employees.
Stephen Patrizio said that the “house of horrors” proprietor exercised a nearly hypnotic form of mind control over his client, Lynda Williams. She said the doctor had treated her for bipolar disorder.
Her former colleague, Sherry West, had previously said through her lawyer that Gosnell exerted a “Svengali control” over her.
The 45-year-old Williams returned to a Philadelphia courthouse on Saturday to be sentenced for her role in another of Gosnell's criminal enterprises: using his West Philadelphia Women's Medical Society to sell illegal drugs.
U.S. District Judge Cynthia Rufe sentenced the 45-year-old woman to two-and-a-half years in jail but ruled that federal and state sentences would be served concurrently.
In addition to the “routine” practice of “snipping,” Gosnell wrote 2,300 prescriptions a month, selling OxyContin, generic Xanax, and 19,000 ounces of codeine cough syrup between 2008 and January 2010. The scripts he freely dispensed, handed out by workers including Williams, fueled the area's drug trade, something Gosnell said helped the economy and “probably lowered the crime rate” in West Philly. “These are hard economic times,” he said. “The people need these pills.”
Gosnell was sentenced to an additional 30 years in prison last December for his drug activities.
Williams will return to court on Wednesday to be sentenced for the grisly murders that took place under Gosnell's watch. As part of a plea bargain, she will not face the death penalty nor mandatory life in prison.
She testified that after she cut a newborn's spinal column, “it jumped, the arm,” motioning with her arm to indicate the child had been alive at the time of the murder.
Williams, who has only a ninth grade education, said she did not know the procedure Gosnell taught her to perform – snipping babies' spinal columns with scissors after delivery – was murder.
She admitted to killing one newborn, as well as being present when 41-year-old Karnamaya Mongar died in 2009 from an overdose of Demerol. Williams said she administered the drug on Gosnell's orders, and that Mongar was in severe pain during the procedure.

Williams entered a guilty plea to two counts of third-degree murder in November 2011, as well as conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to participate in a corrupt organization, and illegally administering drugs to women undergoing late-term abortions.
In all, she could have faced 200 years in prison for those charges alone.
