OTTAWA, July 21 (LSN) – The Department of Foreign Affairs announced yesterday five new appointments to the Board of Governors of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), which are sure to perpetuate the population-control, “gender mainstreaming,” and “development” agendas currently advocated by the centre. The IDRC’s mandate is to “help researchers and communities in the developing world find solutions to their social, economic, and environmental problems.”  Among the new appointees is Margaret Catley-Carlson, identified as president of the New York-based Population Council since 1993. The Population Council — https://www.popcouncil.org/ — encourages population-control programs around the world, and operates from a radical feminist perspective. In their own words: “The Population Council … seeks to improve the wellbeing and reproductive health of current and future generations around the world and to help achieve a humane, equitable, and sustainable balance between people and resources.” Among other things, it analyzes population issues and trends,  develops new contraceptives, and helps governments design and implement effective population policies.  Herb Breau, another appointee, was a Member of Parliament from 1968 to 1984. During that time, from 1981-  1984, he was a member of the internationalist Trilateral Commission. Beryl Gafney was a Liberal MP in the Ottawa area from 1988-1997, and is a member of the International Committee on Human Rights. While in Parliament, she played an active role in the areas of “human rights” and “women’s rights.” The other two appointees, Jacques Gérin and Olav Slaymaker, appear to have more innocuous backgrounds.
