ASBURY PARK, New Jersey, February 11, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A Rasmussen Reports Survey released Tuesday found that half of American respondents consider abstinence-only sex education effective, while only 42% consider it ineffective.

The survey was conducted a week after the release of a landmark U. of Pennsylvania study published by the American Medical Association, linking abstinence-only education to a significant decrease in promiscuity among high-risk teens. 

The pollster also reports that respondents who had children at home were “slightly less supportive” of sex education than those without children.  Black Americans were “much more likely” than whites to support abstinence-only education in the poll.

80% of the respondents said it was the parents' responsibility to teach their children about sex.
